The Diet Goddess

Well, after a big diet wobble last weekend I managed to retrieve a 'stay the same' vote on the scales.  Today I am seeking a bit of inspiration to up my motivation levels.

I recently bought some 'Goddess Power' cards and haven't used them yet - so thought I'd ask them for some Goddess Girl Power messages.

After a good shuffle and cut, the first card I drew was Mary - the Pregnancy / motherhood Goddess.  I had a look at the guide book that comes with the cards and all the messages from Mary are about contraception, family and children.

Believe me, I put that card back in the deck quicker than you can say 'Diet Goddess';  ok so can't say 'Diet Goddess' that quickly, but you get my drift.  Enough from that card methinks.

So I drew another card - and this time got Pele - the Hawaiian Goddess for all things energy.  That's more like it!

Messages from Pele include about the benefits of natural foods rather than short-term processed high sugar quick 'hit' foods.  She includes a message about cleaning up my diet and slugging back tons of water.  Water - the famous h20.  We are meant to drink litres of it each day, which I struggle to do.  Other Tubby Town residents swear by it as a weight loss aid.  Other messages from Pele include getting out in the fresh air, and exercising - and yoga.

Ok, so that's the theme for this week. Drink more water and do more exercise!

I was rather hoping for something along the lines of drink more wine and eat more chocolate - but I guess that's how I got to Tubby Town in the first place.

Ok scales - let's see how I go and see you on Tuesday.

What's In the Cards Today?

Well having made a good start since going back to Tubby Town in January, 3.5 tubbies gone so far, I'm wondering how I can keep this momentum up.

I've been buying quite a few decks recently so I thought I'd ask a new one - the Gothic Tarot by Joseph Vargo - what I need to be aware of in the forthcoming Tubby Town week.

This is quite a 'dark' deck with 'otherside' type of images.  Yet nonetheless beautiful and often haunting.  The card I drew was the Knave of Swords, which - in this deck - is quite a menacing looking character.  This is someone who is clever but can also be deceitful and manipulative.  In Tubby Town this would be the Diet Saboteur.  It need not be someone else,  it can also be myself and fooling myself that now I've lost a few tubbies I can relax.  The jeans are feeling a bit looser, so I can eat a few more Fat Pills - even though I'm not hungry.  Had a bit of that on Friday and yesterday.

I stuck at the same weight this week so need to break this cycle early before next weigh in on Tuesday.  I want the downward spiral (weight-wise of course) to start again this week.

So back to business even more seriously today.  Only two more days to the great Weigh In.

Enter the Dragon

Happy New Year of the Dragon.  The Chinese Year of the Dragon is one of daring, ambition and bubbling energy.  To celebrate this auspicious and grandiose year today's guest card comes from the Dragon Tarot deck, created by Peter Pracownik and Terry Donaldson.

Today's card (drawn randomly from the deck) is the Ace of Wands, which is an excellent card for those of us journeying through Tubby Town.  The Ace of Wands represents the seed of a new project.  This might be newcomers just starting out or those of us longer-standing citizens of Tubby Town turning over a new leaf and getting back on track.

Our Dragon Ace of Wands is a very auspicious card for us Tubby Towners;  we can see the Dragon surrounded by the items we need to help us on our Tubby Town journey.  Whatever we need is there - a globe and a map of the stars to help us stay in the right direction, books with low Fat Pills recipes and vessels full of water for us to drink.  Everything we need to lose those Tubbies. The tip of the Dragon's Wand glints with the light of PMA (that's Positive Mental Attitude in Tubby Town speak) to keep us on the straight and narrow - narrow being the operative word of course!

So my lovely Tubby Towners - as they say in Chinatown - Gong Xi Fa Cai !

Judgement Time

The Judgement card has definitely been the theme of this week.  This card is taken from the beautiful Gilded deck by Ciro Marchetti.  It's back to business in Tubby Town for everyone after December's excesses, and we are running a team competition to see which loses the most weight between now and Easter.  The teams are Elephants versus Hippos and I am the Hippo team leader.

The Judgement card is about rebirth and renewal, and also confronting, facing up to and letting go of the past.   This describes our week perfectly, both Naughty Nellies and Hottie Hippos (I'm not biased with the adjectives of course).  We are all turning over a new leaf for the Challenge (rebirth and renewal) and are also confronting and coming to terms with our past (everyone has to declare a starting weight for the Challenge).  **ouch**.   I can tell this has pushed a few buttons (or muffin tops), mine included.

Judgement doesn't Judge us though, it is about us preparing to move on to a new beginning, which is characterised by its following card in the tarot - The World - the final major card in a tarot deck.  The end of an era,and the start of a new phase in our lives.

And so my lovely Tubby Towners, that is us as we stand poised on the precipice of the first team challenge of 2012.  Facing up to our indulgent pasts, confronting the weight we see on the scales in front of us, and making those changes we all know in our heart of hearts we have to make.

Good luck to you all, and may we all lose tons of weight - although may the Hippos lose more than the Elephants. (of course!).

See you on the scales!

Back to Basics (Again!)

Looking at how long ago my last post was shows just how bad I have been in the last half of 2011, and I've paid for it. Over half a stone on and seams are groaning.  My jeans run away when they see me coming.

So back to business in 2012.  So, first off, I thought I would draw a Psycard to look at my current state of mind and see what message the cards have for me in this, my first week of starting over.

Ha! ha! ha! how appropriate, the card I drew was 'The Body'.  This card relates to our physical make-up and bodily well-being (or lack of it).  Well, that couldn't be much clearer could it - The Body - what I need to focus on, and don't I know it.

The caution of this card though is about balance, and that I need to find the happy medium between the couch potato and gym fanatic.  I must admit, the former sounds easier.

So - what else do I need to know regarding The Body, and what's the message from the cards for today?  To find out I thought we would have a bit of James Bond ***whoa!! down girls!***

Today's card is from the Witches Tarot deck which was featured in my favourite Bond film, Live and Let Die.  If you can't recall the tarot-reading scene between Jame Bond (Roger Moore) and Solitaire (Jane Seymour), you can view it here.

Unlike James Bond, I have drawn a very good card for the start of a new campaign - the 2 of Wands which astrologically is Mars in Aries.  Lots of fiery energy and get up and go.  The 2 of Wands signifies a new venture taking shape - ha! ha! just what my Body needs - something to get it into shape.  The point of the 2 of Wands card is that the drive and energy are all in my own hands, see the hand in the picture?  Actually, the picture gave me other thoughts of James Bond as well....

Ok, so message for today - our Body is in our own hands.

Back to Basics

Oh dear.  I haven't been doing much tarot recently, nor much dieting either.  For nigh on a month now.  Just before my recent trip to Ugg-Land dieting didn't seem worth it just before I went, certainly wasn't worth doing while I was out there, and I am now struggling to get back into good habits even though I've been home for over a week.

And not been to any tarot groups nor seen any of my lovely tarot friends - the recent riots put paid to one planned get together.

So it's Back to Basics on both fronts. And the B-2-B deck in tarot is the RWS. The one I learnt from, along with many other tarotists.  So today's guest deck to get me B-2-B in Tubby Town is the Universal Waite.

So I asked the cards: "What advice do you give me to get myself back on track in Tubby Town?"

So I shuffled the cards and randomly drew the 5 of Swords. Great!!  The 'Defeat' card. Tarot is a mirror and that's definitely me at the moment. Defeated by everything to do with Tubby Town and losing weight. Those swords lying on the ground in the card are the tatters of my on-line tracker for counting how many Fat Pills I've had.  And I just can't pick them up and get going again.

Nice one tarot, you have pretty well summed up where I am - but how about some advice for what to do now?

So I turned to a new Oracle deck I have just bought but not used yet. The Oracle of Shadows and Light by Lucy Cavendish. Oh yes - the Girl Power card!  It's the 'Dress of Alchemy' card;  "Release your power" is the message of this card. Take it on, confront it, go for it.  Look at the determination on that face on the card.

Just looking at this card makes me feel empowered. it's up to me.  I know how to do it, and it's up to me to just go for it.  Good God, she's even holding my bottle of wine!

This card is also the picture on the box that the cards came in, further underlining what a major message this is.  "Janey...Janey...I bring you wine...and you must drink it it...."

The cards have spoken. Rude not to....right?

It's An Obstacle Course

Ok my lovely chocolate cakes. What a funny old couple of weeks it has been.  I think the luscious Devil card from the Housewives Tarot deck which I have selected to represent the theme of this post just about sums it up for many of us at the moment.

I have gone completely to pot and lost the plot. And I haven't been alone. Loads of solid Tubby Towners have had the same problem, including some of the really strong-willed girlies.

I think it must be something in the Planets.  Even the Sleepy Sunnies, our opposing team in our weight loss competition, struggled a bit this last week although they still beat us Foxy Flowers.

So - what is going on?

Maybe the cards can tell us. Today's guest deck is the Tarot of Pagan Cats, a very cute deck with some beautiful feline images that capture the essence of each card very well. Lots of the Tubby Towners are animal lovers, so thought this deck for this purpose might lift us all and get us back on track.

So today's question is about understanding what the obstacle is at the moment and what can we do about it? I asked the cards while I shuffled the deck thoroughly and drew three cards at random.

Where we are now: The 9 of Pentacles
This card is a card of opulence, and about comfort and feeling secure. In a dieting sense this can suggest that perhaps many of us have reached a point where we are beginning to feel better about our weight and our figures, we are perhaps feeling comfortable with ourselves and so it gets easy to think "I don't look so bad now.....so that bottle of wine won't hurt."  Perhaps a slight sense of complacency and diet fatigue even settles in. We then forgot to track and point everything, perhaps being a bit lax because - the initial desperation to lose some weight has slightly worn off, even though we're not where we finally want to be yet.

A dress fits, trousers do up. And rather than spur us on to do even more, doesn't it often have the opposite effect?  We take the foot off the pedal a little bit, and before we know it - 2 tubbies back on and we feel like we're going two steps forwards and one step back.

The obstacle or challenge facing us:  The Tower
How appropriate - The Tower. See - my cards never lie to me. I couldn't have drawn a more appropriate card if I had searched through the deck and chosen it.  The Tower is the card of destruction, where things are suddenly and unexpectedly torn down (and often not very welcomed).

The Tower is a major card in the deck, indicating an influence that has a major impact on us. How very true! It also corresponds with the planet Mars, and who was also the God of War.

Tubby Towners - this is our self destruct button.  This is where those 2 tubbies on doesn't become the 'wake-up' call we need. This is the one where the "what the hell" button that we all have kicks in. We lose our complete sense of what we're doing; we put on more weight and we know we are but we can't stop.

Every day we get up and start off planning and counting those Fat Pills but by the evening the resolve has gone and we are a packet of biscuits, a sharing bag of crisps, an Indian takeaway or a bottle of wine down (or most likely all four!).  And before we know it 2 tubbies have crept up to 10 tubbies and rising.

And there is a dieter's rule that we all know and don't love - the weight goes on quicker than it goes off! 10 tubbies on in 3 weeks = 6 weeks to lose them again (more often than not).

So what can we do?

The solution to that obstacle:  Strength
Oh my, oh my, oh my.  My cards are singing today.

Strength is absolutely the card for this. But my fellow chocolate cakes - this isn't going to tell you anything you don't already know I'm afraid.

Strength is another major card, indicating something that will have a big impact on us.  It corresponds with the astrological sign of Leo, which is associated with leadership and someone who takes control of situations.

Strength is the mind over matter card. It is the card of Strength of Will card. Mr Will Power's card in fact.  It says to us that we can do anything we want if we apply ourselves and focus fully on it.  We can overcome the self-destruct button that The Tower offers to us, but the Strength to do so has to come from within ourselves. We have to attune and stay focused.  Only we can do this ourselves.

And - my fellow Tubbies - I think we sort of knew that, didn't we?

So - sorry there was nothing new here in terms of diet advice. But all good stuff, and the cards are really singing to us today.

But the cats are very pretty aren't they?
